Position Overview:

This is an IN-PERSON position at our Facility in Victoria, BC.

We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Senior Biomedical Scientist/Engineer to join our Tissue Engineering team. This role will play a key part in validating and commercializing VoxCell's advanced tissue models as tools for preclinical drug testing. The successful candidate will have a strong background in 3D bioprinting, cell culture, and cellular assays, with a passion for designing experiments and solving complex research problems. Key Responsibilities:

  • 3D Bioprinting:
    Utilize VoxCell's proprietary bioprinter and bioinks to produce 3D tissue models.
  • Cell Culture:
    Support mammalian tissue culture activities and ensure cell lines are properly expanded, cryopreserved, and databases updated as required.
  • Assay Development:
    Lead and execute cellular assay development initiatives. Design and troubleshoot methods to profile efficacy and mechanism of action of drug candidates.
  • Microscopy and Imaging:
    Use advanced microscopy and immunofluorescent techniques to collect and analyze experimental data.
  • Experimental Design:
    Applies knowledge of cancer biology, 3D bioprinting, and other scientific methodologies in designing and optimizing experimental protocols to meet research objectives and answer critical scientific questions.
  • Data Analysis:
    Interpret experimental results using statistical methods, identifying trends, patterns, and actionable insights.
  • Collaboration:
    Work closely with biomedical engineers, chemists, and software engineers to develop and commercialize preclinical testing tools.
  • Documentation:
    Maintain accurate records of experiments and ensure standard operating procedures (SOPs) are up to date. Prepares and disseminates data presentations for group meetings, summarizing results and next steps.
  • External Partnerships:
    Support the planning and execution of experiments in collaboration with pharmaceutical companies, biotech firms, and CROs. Acts as an area representative in specific projects.
  • Maintenance:
    Keep laboratory spaces clean, organized, and compliant with safety protocols. Assist in training new staff on proper procedures and protocols.
  • Mentorship:
    Provides leadership, scientific/technical guidance, and training to new/junior staff.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Molecular Biology, Cancer Immunology, or a related field (Ph.D. preferred).
  • Minimum of 3 years of industry experience in bioprinting, cell culture, and/or cellular assays.
  • Proficiency in 3D bioprinting and tissue engineering.
  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency in the following techniques:
    fluorescence imaging, plate reader-based assays, flow cytometry, and mammalian tissue culture (immunological/co-culture assays considered an asset).
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex scientific concepts clearly to multidisciplinary teams and build open collaborative relationships.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving skills and a quantitative, data-driven mindset.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, research-driven environment and adapt to new challenges.
