The Ministry of Education has a challenging opportunity for a highly motivated and innovative individual in the Capital Planning Branch in a permanent position. Reporting to the Director, Capital Planning, this position will provide infrastructure planning and project coordination services for the prioritization of Pre-K to Grade 12 education infrastructure. The successful candidate will work closely with school divisions and other stakeholders to establish and manage the course of long-term capital and maintenance plans, plus provide professional input to a variety of ministry teams dedicated to supporting and enhancing education capital processes.
Responsibilities in this position include:


Reviewing and analyzing school division capital requests for renovations and new construction and making recommendations for funding options that align with government's strategy for sustainable infrastructure over the long term.
Providing coordination and ministry oversight for capital planning regarding design services and the construction of minor capital renewal and non-school capital projects. Ensure projects are completed within approved budgets and timelines and meet current legislative requirements.
Assisting in technical evaluations and costing evaluations of minor and major capital project requests. Working directly with school divisions, municipalities and the Ministry of SaskBuilds and Procurement.
Reviewing capital plans for alignment with provincial strategic capital priorities. Contribute to the development and oversight of the ministry's capital strategy.
Representing the ministry on construction related topics with various agencies and organizations, including Boards of Education, Architectural and Engineering Consultants, other government departments and agencies, municipal governments and community groups.
Reviewing and consulting with municipalities on Official Community Plans, subdivision and neighbourhood plans to ensure appropriate planning and policies of land for schools in new developments.
Providing advice, input and information for the development of all ministry capital policy and legislative amendments.

You will have knowledge of:


The principles and practices of institutional building construction, contract documents, tendering procedures and relevant codes.
School facilities, present trends and future requirements.
Project management practices and principles as they relate to the maintenance, operation, and renovation and renewal of facilities.
MS Excel, MS Word, AutoCAD and other software packages.

Typically, the knowledge for this position would be attained through a diploma, degree, and/or designation in Architecture, Engineering or Construction Project Management and significant building design, construction, operation and project management experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered. Some travel will be required throughout the province.
