What Is The Opportunity?

Aecon Foundations is a leader in the Canadian Foundations industry.
From shoring systems to foundation piling of all types; Aecon Foundations brings the Aecon advantage to all of our market sectors and acts as a strong partner from project initiation, design development, field testing and execution.

We are currently looking for a Student Estimator to join Aecon Foundations for an 8-month co-op placement.
The Student Estimator will sit out of our Toronto or Calgary office location starting May 2025 and will support the Foundations team in their process of bidding new work and working with the estimating team.

Key Responsibilities

• Being mentored by Senior and Chief Estimators in bidding projects including construction approach.
• Pursuing various projects including a combination of bid-build, design-build and PPP projects ranging from bridges, tunnels, highways to water & wastewater treatment.
• Working with estimate teams on bid preparations including
  • Quantity takeoff and updating estimate software with quantities.
  • Subcontractor/Vendor solicitation.
  • Subcontractor/Vendor Quote comparisons.
  • Inserting quotes into estimate software.
  • Assisting with means and methods for project construction.
  • Assisting in design build process and working with design teams.
  • Preparing portions of estimates utilizing Hard Dollar Estimating software.
  • Preparing portions of schedules utilizing Primavera P6 software.
  • Participate in tender closing.
  • Working with partners estimating teams.
  • Preparation of handover documents to site team for successful bids.

Required Knowledge and Skills

• Currently enrolled in a university or technical college diploma in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
• A valid driver's license with a clean driver's abstract.
• Proven ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines for normal functions and special assignments.
• Attention to detail, mathematical, analytical skills and accuracy.
• Ability to build positive working relationships with internal and external clients.
• Service orientation and ability to work effectively with a team environment.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
