Structural Professional Engineer – Mining

Aplin has partnered with a provider of mine contracting services in Vaughan, Ontario to hire a Senior Structural Professional Engineer.

The Senior Structural Engineer is responsible for conceptualizing, planning, coordinating, and executing the structural design of buildings and structures related to underground mining, including headframes, surface buildings, conveyors, crushers, and loading stations.

Responsibilities:

1. Oversee the design, engineering, development, and review of plans and criteria for a variety of activities, assess feasibility of proposed plans, projects, and equipment.
2. Participate in the planning and creation of drawings and designs involving detailed analysis and design of structural steelwork, reinforced concrete, masonry, timber and building systems.
3. Prepare structural specifications, design criteria, and Scope of Work documents.
   Determine structural specifications, materials, equipment, and scope.
4. Investigate and resolve problems as they relate to structural engineering and create unique designs and concepts to handle difficult engineering demands.
5. Execute the structural design of buildings and structures related to underground mining, including headframes, buildings, conveyor galleries, crusher stations bunkers, and loading stations.
6. Evaluate and review all engineering work before being released including designs, drawings, code, and integration with other disciplines.
7. Ensure design compliance with relevant engineering standards and codes, as well as internal QA/QC procedures, for own work and work of teammates.
8. Carry out structural audits, evaluate the condition of existing structures, and assess requirements for repair and rehabilitation.
   Conduct site visits, liaise with clients and site personnel as required.
9. Take responsibility for aspects of occupational health and safety, and environmental matters, over which the individual has control, including adherence to all applicable requirements.
10. Assist with proposals and prepare estimates of work hours and fees.

Qualifications:

1. 10+ years of structural design experience on heavy industry projects.
2. Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.
   designation).
3. Advanced understanding of structural codes, standards, principles, theories, practices, and applications in the use of modern engineering.
4. Demonstrated ability in the design and analysis of structural systems including steelwork and reinforced concrete to Canadian design codes.
5. Intimate knowledge of FEA structural design and analysis software, such as RISA 3D and Robot.
6. Intimate knowledge of BIM software such as Revit & Navisworks is an asset.
7. Strong oral and written communication skills.
8. Team player with a strong inclination towards working with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and designers.
9. Experience in the mining industry is an asset, but not mandatory.
