What You'll Do

As the Operations Director, you will be a strategic partner to the Managing Director, leading CANZA's internal processes, governance, and team management to deliver operational excellence. You'll oversee key initiatives, support cross-functional alignment, and ensure efficient day-to-day operations that enable CANZA to achieve its ambitious mission.

Operational Leadership and Financial Oversight

Develop and execute operations strategies that drive CANZA's goals, enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
Work closely with the Managing Director to define long-term strategies and execute key initiatives.
Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress and drive improvements.
Oversee quality assurance to uphold operational excellence and continuous improvement.
Manage budgets and resource allocation alongside the Managing Director.
Act as a trusted advisor to the Managing Director, providing insights and recommendations on operational matters.

Stakeholder Engagement

Own and manage governance frameworks, including reporting and facilitating the Operating Committee.
Support the Managing Director in coordinating cross-functional activities with Founding Partners, Convening Partners, and project stakeholders.
Prepare reports, presentations, and other materials for CANZA's Executive Committee and stakeholders.
Build and maintain strong relationships with Founding Partners, Convening Partners, and project stakeholders to ensure alignment and support excellent partner experiences.

Technology, Compliance, and Risk Management

Lead the adoption of tools and technologies to improve CANZA's efficiency and effectiveness.
Identify and mitigate operational risks while ensuring compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
Ensure operational processes align with CANZA's values and mission-driven objectives.

Team Leadership and Development

Lead and mentor a growing team of managers and staff, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and high performance.
Champion talent development and create an environment that attracts and retains top talent.
Build strong relationships across teams to ensure alignment and operational excellence.

Who You Are

You're a purpose-driven professional with exceptional leadership and organizational skills, ready to take on challenges in a dynamic, collaborative environment.

Thrives in Complexity:
Experienced in managing complex, multi-stakeholder systems, ideally within sustainability, agri-food, or a related field.
Strong Communicator:
Builds meaningful relationships and communicates clearly and effectively, with exceptional interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
Technical Food Systems Expert:
Familiar with sustainability frameworks, carbon markets, regenerative agriculture, and food and beverage supply chains. Experience with carbon inventory measurement and reporting is a strong asset.
Collaborative Leader:
Fosters a supportive and communicative team environment while inspiring accountability and collaboration.
Independent and Innovative:
Proactively takes initiative, solves complex problems, and drives innovative solutions.
Resilient and Adaptable:
Thrives in ambiguity and responds to shifting priorities with ease.

Qualifications

You bring a blend of experience, skills, and expertise that equips you to thrive in this leadership role:

7+ years in operations leadership, ideally within sustainability, non-profits, or complex multi-stakeholder environments.
Degree in business administration, operations management, or a related field.
Proven track record in governance, organizational management, and team leadership.
Exceptional organizational, analytical, and communication skills with the ability to manage competing priorities under pressure.
Familiarity with sustainability practices, carbon reduction initiatives, or agri-food systems, considered an asset.
