We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Associate Underwriter for our Commercial Real Estate division to join our team in Mississauga, Canada. The successful candidate will play a critical role in evaluating and underwriting commercial real estate transactions, ensuring prudent credit risk management, and contributing to the company's overall success.

Responsibilities

Underwriting & Financial Analysis:

Analyze a variety of commercial real estate transactions across all asset classes.
Perform detailed financial modeling and quantitative analysis for real estate financing transactions across asset classes.
Assess borrowers' creditworthiness by evaluating financial statements, personal net worth statements, credit reports, and other relevant data.
Prepare detailed underwriting packages and data rooms comprising of Deal Summaries for submission to appropriate lenders, incorporating creative underwriting and accurate transaction representations.

Market Research & Valuation:

Conduct comprehensive market research, including local and regional real estate trends, economic indicators, and competitive landscapes, to substantiate underwriting assumptions.
Correspond with originators, borrowers, and other stakeholders to validate and refine market and property data.
Evaluate collateral and property values through appraisal reviews and market analysis.

Credit Risk Assessment:

Identify risks and mitigants associated with loan transactions and recommend appropriate loan structures to mitigate potential issues.
Recommend terms and conditions to align transactions with Lantern Capital's credit policies while ensuring profitability.

Documentation & Reporting:

Prepare detailed credit memos and presentations for submission to lenders.
Maintain accurate records of underwriting processes to ensure compliance with internal and regulatory standards.
Ensure all post funding criteria is met on transactions.
Ensure FSRA compliance for all transactions.

Collaboration:

Work closely with internal teams, to streamline processes and deliver exceptional client service.
Collaborate with external industry professionals, including lenders, consultants, COI's and legal counsel, to substantiate underwriting and transaction details.

Requirements

Educational Background:

Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field.
Professional designations such as CFA, CPA, or equivalent are an asset.

Experience:

2-4 years of experience in commercial real estate credit analysis, underwriting, or a related field.
Familiarity with or keen interest in Canadian real estate markets/development industry, especially in Ontario.

Technical Skills:

Proficiency in financial modeling, including discounted cash flow (DCF) and sensitivity analysis.
Expertise in loan structuring, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance for real estate financing.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and financial analysis tools.
Demonstrates a high capacity for increasingly complex workloads.

Soft Skills:

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports and presenting findings.
Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
Ability to work independently with confidence and strong commitment to Borrower/Client service
