The Engineering Manager - Safety and Licensing, Engineering Excellence will provide technical and functional management for safety and licensing activities for Nuclear Power Plant projects within a matrix organization.

Location - Mississauga, ON

Your role within the team:

Provide technical management of individuals and teams executing safety assessments of plant systems and licensing support to operational plants as well as refurbishment and new reactor projects.

This includes:

• Approving technical documents and deliverables prepared by staff working under them.
• Planning and executing work consistent with quality, cost, and schedule requirements.
• Removing barriers that would impact deliverables to meet project requirements and priorities, working with the assigned staff to find solutions and optimizations.
• Providing technical advice to staff and as appropriate subject matter expertise to staff and management.
• Participating in the preparation of commercial proposals and approving the technical content of proposals under their direction related to the new build project.
• Forecasting resource demands for the assigned work scope, including skills, capabilities, and durations.
  Interfacing with clients and successfully delivering engineering products in accordance with customer specifications and requirements.
• The Manager will also oversee the work of 10 to 15 engineering staff.

• Performing administrative tasks, e.g., timesheet approvals, vacation approvals.
• Goal setting, Performance feedback, and performance enhancement.
• Training and Qualifications Planning and Management.

• Initiating and executing organizational initiatives to improve efficiency, employee engagement, and to foster a collaborative environment.
• Initiating and sourcing appropriate resources through evaluation of resource demands.

The ideal candidate:

• 10+ years of licensing experience in a nuclear project environment, including experience leading engineering teams.
• Excellent knowledge of the CANDU design, including both NSP (especially safety systems) and BOP, with particular emphasis on the heat transport system (HTS) and plant control, containment, and moderator systems would be an asset.
• Broad knowledge of system operation, plant response, and understanding of underlying reliability principles.
• Broad knowledge of thermal-fluid sciences (fluid flow, heat transfers, multi-phase flow, and thermodynamics).
• Knowledge of DSA, PSA methodologies, codes, and standards (e.g., Canadian, US, IAEA).
• Thorough knowledge of the Codes and Standards used in NPP licensing in Canada and/or CANDU Reactors internationally.
  Comparable knowledge for the USA and the EU is an asset.
• Must be conversant with computer environments; proficiency in both Linux and WINDOWS environments is a strong asset.
• Familiarity and experience with some of the safety and licensing computer codes such as CATHENA, NUCIRC, GOTHIC, and MAAP.
• Proficient in CAFTA suite of computer codes, CFAST, and/or RiskSpectrum is an asset.
• Proficiency in computer programming, especially FORTRAN, is desirable.
• Ability to work to budget and schedule.
  Must be willing to travel occasionally to participate in walkdowns, meetings, and workshops.
• Proven leadership skills, providing technical guidance to assist and supervise analysts with good communication skills.
• Eligible for nuclear energy worker (NEW).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Additional, preferred qualifications:
  
• Engineering degree in a related engineering discipline.
• Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario, qualified to seal engineering documents.
• Experience managing and/or performing multidisciplinary work with significant interfacing requirements with interfacing disciplines such as licensing, safety analysis, mechanical, electrical/I&C, process control, and civil engineering.
• Experience working in a nuclear facility licensed in Canada, or CANDU Reactors is highly preferable.
• Willing to travel to and potentially work at Project sites to meet project needs (Note:
  the home location is at the Mississauga head office in Ontario).
