Salary Range: SP2, Level 4, $74,242.00 - $92,803.00 per year. The final compensation for this position will be determined based on individual factors, including education, qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

The Opportunity

The Alberta Energy Regulator is currently recruiting for a Compliance Auditor of Well Operations to join its talented team of professionals in the Regulatory Compliance branch (RC). The Compliance Auditor of Well Operations will work within the Compliance Verification team conducting routine audits, supporting complex compliance assurance activities on industry operations, and verifying compliance with regulatory requirements.

As a member of the team, your role is responsible for conducting audits to confirm compliance with well operations related regulatory requirements. Areas of focus include the abandonment of mineral lease expired wells, reviewing well packer test results and inactive well requirements. This role offers immersion into a multi-disciplinary team and will provide the successful candidate with exposure to varied specialties, including closure spend, Water Act, post disposal drilling waste, pipelines, subsurface and resource based reviews. This role offers the successful candidate the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in ensuring the safety, reliability and timely abandonment of Alberta's well infrastructure.

What your day-to-day will look like:

• Conduct routine audits and support complex audits on operations/activities within the AER's jurisdiction.

• Prepare audit plans, collect, and analyze information from varied and numerous sources to determine compliance, resolve problems and make recommendations to improve operations.

• Prepare audit letters, noncompliance letters, perform follow-up actions and execute compliance assurance processes as required. Seek guidance, mentoring and training from senior staff as needed. Ensure all audit file documentation is compiled and saved appropriately.

• Follow and support all planning and reporting activities in alignment with AER policies, procedures, the Compliance Assurance Program, and branch operational plans.

• Respond to inquiries and stakeholder complaints for routine files.

• Contribute to provincial initiatives or assignments related to operational needs, regulatory, and technical issues as appropriate. Support provincial teams as needed by conducting proactive audits programs and ensure the flow of information between audit teams and field centers.

What we're looking for in you:

• 3 years related experience in auditing or related oil & gas experience.

• Technical Diploma in environment, oil & gas or other related education. A combination of education and experience will be considered.

• Working knowledge of well integrity and abandonment operations would be an asset.

• Proficiency in data management using Microsoft Excel is preferred.

• Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills with the ability to work independently and take initiative to achieve objectives.
