The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development is seeking an individual for the Education Services - Anglophone Division as Director for the Office of First Nations Education in Fredericton.

What you will do:
Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister of Education Services Division (Anglophone), the successful candidate will be responsible for advising senior management on the direction for programs and services impacting First Nations students in the New Brunswick Education System, Anglophone sector.

The successful candidate's primary responsibilities will include:

  • Working closely with First Nation communities to address their educational needs, consulting regularly with community stakeholders, and collaborating with the Department of Indigenous Affairs.
  • Assisting with culturally-based education support services when required.
  • Collaborating with the band-operated school system and acting as the Department contact for school districts.
  • Maintaining strategic relationships and advising the Department on participation in partnership activities.
  • Providing direction, coaching, mentoring and support to direct reports.
  • Supervising curriculum development.
  • Co-chairing the ministerial advisory group for Aboriginal Education and will work to further that committee's priorities.
  • Develop and providing for the implementation of policies for the Office.
  • Advising on interdepartmental, pan-Atlantic, and pan-Canadian projects and relations.
  • Supervising the creation of and adherence to annual project plans
  • Managing the office budget, and overseeing ministerial briefing documents, ministerial correspondence, and human resource documents.

Your attitude, skills and interests are just as important as your area of study. We are looking for diverse backgrounds that bring a combination of the following:

Need to have:

  • Master's degree in Education, Business, or a related field.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of related experience, including three (3) years of management experience.
  • A thorough knowledge of the Anglophone Education system of New Brunswick, educational principles, and the administrative policies established by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
  • Relevant experience working directly with First Nation communities, schools, or organizations.
  • Knowledge of First Nations governance structures, community relations, and Mi'kmaq and Wolastoqey language, culture and history is essential.
  • Strong knowledge of Section 7 of the NB Education Act, Objective 6 of the 10-year Education Plan.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience in a field such as adult education/coaching may be considered.

Written and spoken competence in English is required. Please state your language capability.

Nice to have:

  • Ability to speak Mi'kmaq and/or Wolastoqey language.
  • Knowledge of the Band-operated School system.
  • Teaching experience in First Nations. \

Wage:
Pay Band 8: $108,030 ¿ $121,680 annually.

Work environment:

  • Office location: 250 King Street, Fredericton.
  • Standard hours of work: Monday - Friday, 8:15-4:30.
