Role Overview
As a 'hands-on' generalist, the Human Resources Business Partner performs a range of HR duties consisting of employee relations & engagement, recruitment, compensation, performance management, succession development planning & training, health & safety, and benefits administration. This role requires an individual who continually strives to understand how HR supports the business for bottom-line improvement and provides resolutions and consulting in the above areas to ensure profitable manufacturing-based business operations.

Location
This position is based at the Supremex Envelope division in Winnipeg (MB), supporting 2 facilities (Winnipeg - MB, Richmond - BC) with a total of approximately 65-70 employees, as well as, supporting additional HR initiatives and projects for other Canadian regions.

Reporting Structure
This position reports to the Human Resources Director to share HR best practices, harmonize programs and policies, tackle special projects and efficiently leverage resources across Canadian operations, and will work closely with the local managers and Operations teams as a business partner to support their HR needs.

Responsibilities:

1. Passionately assume ownership for all aspects of HR throughout the operations; serving as a supportive colleague to the Management Team and an employee advocate to foster a culture of transparency, collaboration, performance and respect.
2. Work with departmental managers to drive employee engagement initiatives that foster a positive work environment and morale.
3. Serve as go-to resource for all employees to discuss all human resources related issues. Provide coaching and resources to employees and managers with respect to employee relations, staffing initiatives, performance management, compensation, and career development.
4. In collaboration with the Total Rewards team, manage compensation programs and wage structures; and coordinate key benefit programs (group insurance, pension plan, etc. ) and educate employees.
5. Evaluate, implement, and manage formal employee performance management programs.
6. In collaboration with the Health & Safety Manager and Operations, work with all levels of management and employees to initiate, promote, implement and maintain health and safety programs and initiatives, compliant with Occupational Health and Safety standards. Oversee and manage workers compensation programs and claims:
1. Implement safety practices, policies and plans.
2. Ensure compliance with legislated requirements.
3. Develop safe work procedures.
4. Participate in joint health and safety committee.
5. Act as a company liaison with Workers Compensation Boards.
6. Provide case management & administration for occupational and non-occupational injury and illness.
7. Provide day-to-day guidance and advice to managers and employees.
8. Conduct accident investigations.
7. Provide resolutions to employee relation issues (e. g. employee complaints and harassment allegations).
8. Organize and conduct employee information meetings on employment policies and benefits.
9. Manage effective employee communications for personnel related issues.
10. Set up and monitor the various performance indicators and provide accurate statistical reports.
11. In collaboration with the Talent Acquisition team, screen, perform interviews, and recruit for job openings.
12. Oversee adequate orientation and training within the organization.
13. Coordinate and organize both internal and external training programs to support employee development initiatives.
14. Recommend personnel policies and procedures, including improvements or updates to the Employee Policy Manual and advise and assist other departmental managers on interpretation and administration of those policies and programs.
15. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory compliance, as required by provincial and federal laws such as: Labour Standards, Occupational Health and Safety, workers compensation, Pay Equity, Employment Equity, etc.
16. Maintain accurate records and files, including personnel records.
17. Support HRIS systems to ensure accurate and efficient documentation / processes for HR.
18. Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Requirements

1. 3-5 years of experience in a Human Resources generalist role, in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, preferably a similar sized organization of 50-75 employees, multiple locations a plus.
2. Bachelor's degree in HR, Business or related discipline.
3. Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation or in-process beneficial.
4. Solid HR & employment law knowledge (particularly in Manitoba and BC), including Labour Standards, Occupational Health and Safety, workers compensation, Pay Equity, Employment Equity, etc.
5. Intermediate computer skills in MS Office required. Knowledge of Desjardins payroll systems, an asset.
