The Opportunity

The Huskies Athletics Mascot at Keyano College is responsible for representing the Huskies at various athletic events, community engagements, and promotional activities. As the face of the Huskies, the mascot plays a vital role in energizing the crowd, creating memorable fan experiences, and promoting the Huskies brand on and off campus. The role requires a high level of enthusiasm, physical stamina, creativity, and the ability to interact positively with fans of all ages.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

1. Game Day Performance:

Perform as the Huskies mascot during all home games, including volleyball, basketball, soccer.

Engage with fans through animated movements, dances, and interactive routines to maintain high energy and excitement.

Lead fan cheers, entertain during timeouts, and create memorable experiences by interacting with the audience, especially children and families.

Execute skits or stunts that align with Huskies Athletics themes and promote school spirit.

2. Fan Engagement and Interaction:

Circulate through the venue pre-game, during intermissions, and post-game to take photos, give high-fives, and interact with fans.

Participate in contests, giveaways, and promotional events during games to enhance the fan experience.

Respond to spontaneous requests from fans and adjust performance based on the crowd's reactions to create a fun and inclusive atmosphere.

3. Community and Campus Engagement:

Represent the Keyano Athletics program at non-sporting events such as pep rallies, community parades, fundraising events, orientations, and other campus activities.

Work with the marketing team to enhance the Huskies' presence in the community by making appearances at local schools, businesses, and community events.

Promote Huskies Athletics through social media appearances and special events as the mascot.

4. Brand Representation:

Uphold the values and image of Huskies Athletics while in costume, ensuring that the mascot's behavior aligns with the family-friendly and inclusive nature of the college.

Promote Huskies Athletics and Keyano College initiatives through creative and engaging performances.

Follow guidelines regarding the use of the mascot's image, ensuring brand consistency at all events.

5. Costume Maintenance and Care:

Ensure the mascot costume is clean, well-maintained, and in good condition for all appearances.

Report any costume damage or wear and tear to the appropriate staff for repairs or replacement.

Qualifications

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent. Post-secondary education or current enrollment in Keyano College is an asset.

Experience:

Previous experience in mascot performance, acting, dance, or physical comedy is preferred but not required.

Experience working with diverse audiences and creating fun, interactive experiences is desirable.

Familiarity with Keyano College, Huskies Athletics, and its sports teams is a plus.

Skills:

Strong physical stamina and ability to perform in a mascot costume for extended periods in varying conditions.

Excellent non-verbal communication skills, with the ability to express enthusiasm and engage with fans using gestures and movements.

Creativity and ability to improvise in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.

Comfortable interacting with children, families, and large crowds.

Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Knowledge of sports and Huskies Athletics traditions is beneficial.

Additional Information

Working Conditions:

This position requires availability during evenings, weekends, and some holidays.

Work is primarily done in costume, which may require extended standing, walking, and physical activity.

Appearances will be required at indoor sports venues as well as outdoor community events.
