One of our clients, a leading midstream oil and gas company, is seeking a highly skilled Pipeline Engineer to join their team. This is a 12-month contract role with a hybrid work schedule, offering an exciting opportunity to contribute to critical pipeline and facility design projects!

Overview

The Senior Pipeline Engineer will oversee the design of pipelines and related facilities for expansion and maintenance capital projects, ensuring compliance with company standards, industry regulations, and project budgets and schedules. This position will collaborate with internal functional teams to achieve project requirements and ensure deliverables are accurate, efficient, and aligned with organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities

Design Oversight:

Ensure all pipeline and associated facility designs comply with regulations, industry codes, and corporate standards.
Review and approve design deliverables, including drawings, technical reports, and material listing sheets.
Oversee third-party engineering firms executing design deliverables, ensuring alignment with project budgets and schedules.
Incorporate lessons learned from previous projects into current and future designs.

Technical Support:

Define scope, schedules, and budgets for design and materials on pipeline projects.
Review vendor material quotations, prepare technical evaluations, and recommend selections based on technical merit, cost, and delivery timelines.
Approve fabrication and assembly drawings for engineered equipment, prefabricated buildings, pig trap barrels, piping fabrications, and other installations.
Provide technical guidance to junior engineers within the team.

Coordination & Collaboration:

Act as the primary liaison for engineering consultant contracts.
Coordinate with Project Managers, Construction Managers, and other stakeholders to ensure project objectives are achieved.
Plan and execute field activities, including land surveys and geotechnical investigations.
Support department initiatives and escalate issues when necessary, ensuring timely resolution through collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

Qualifications Required:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
Minimum of 7 years of relevant engineering experience.
Experience with Horizontal Directional Drill (HDD) design, road bores, and related load/stress calculations.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and prioritize tasks effectively.
Problem-solving skills using standards, modifications, and prior experience.
Ability to communicate technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred:

7-10 years of experience designing onshore natural gas and liquid transmission pipelines in Canada and the U.S.
Familiarity with material standards and specifications (e.g., CSA Z662, CSA Z245.1, Z245.11, Z245.12, 49 CFR Part 192 & 195).
Experience with pressure test plans, including development, review, and acceptance of test results.
Background in projects involving geotechnical and hydrotechnical hazards.
Professional designations (CAPM, PMP, MBA, CWI, NACE, etc.) are an asset.
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Canada.

Working Conditions

Hybrid position: In-Office (Monday, Tuesday & Thursday) / Remote (Wednesday & Friday) (Approximately 80-90% office-based and 10-20% field-based.)
Office-based work involves collaborating with project teams and using software tools like Microsoft Office.
Field activities include project scoping and supporting construction and commissioning activities.
Deliverables are time-sensitive and require strong attention to detail.

Travel Requirements

Travel is required once a month for a few days to sites within the U.S. or Canada, depending on project needs.
