A Day in the Life

Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Resource Development and Communications leads a growing team with the mandate to advance YWCA's mission through strategically raising significant funds and overall organizational marketing and communications. As a member of the senior leadership team, the Director contributes to YWCA Banff's strategic planning and operational execution of annual goals. Primary accountabilities include developing strategy for resource development and communications, designing operational plans and annual budgets, and overseeing their successful execution and implementation.

In addition to having experience in similar leadership roles, the successful candidate will be a career expert in either resource development or communications with a strong working knowledge in the other function.

The Director of Resource Development and Communications is an ambassador for YWCA Banff and the successful candidate will have developed visibility, presence, and networks in the local community and, more broadly, in spaces related to our work. In addition to building relationships, the Director will lead the donor journey for major gifts, harness the power of data for strategy and decision making, engage media strategically, and build broad mission awareness. The candidate will need a high degree of professional discernment to decide what relationships require CEO involvement and to guide the CEO accordingly.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Strategic Leadership:

• Develop and execute an integrated strategy for resource development and communications, aligning team efforts with strategic goals.
• Foster a high-performance culture emphasizing collaboration, continuous improvement, and respect for organizational values.

Relationship Building and Donor Engagement:

• Cultivate meaningful relationships with supporters based on trust, empathy, and alignment with YWCA Banff's mission.
• Enhance donor experiences with personalized communication and impactful engagement throughout the donor lifecycle.

Team Leadership:

• Manage and inspire a team of professionals in resource development, communications, and data analysis, as well as contractors.

Brand Advancement and Communications:

• Elevate YWCA Banff's brand, broaden awareness of programs, and increase visibility among key stakeholders.
• Implement a digital strategy focusing on audience segmentation and lead conversion.
• Represent the organization in building partnerships, communicating brand values, and enhancing its reputation as a leading charity.

Event Management and Performance Metrics:

• Set goals and oversee organizational events, ensuring alignment with fundraising and communication strategies.

Lead Competencies:

• Proven success in creating and executing donor communication programs and annual fundraising campaigns.
• Strategic and innovative thinker with expertise in engaging and motivating supporters.
• Strong project management, organizational, and analytical skills for high-paced environments.
• Experience in donor solicitation, major gift asks, and volunteer committee management.
• Commitment to leveraging data analytics to drive success.
• Capital campaign experience (asset).

Qualifications and Experience

Specific skills and knowledge qualifications include but are not limited to:

• Post-secondary education in a relevant field (Business, Communications, Marketing).
• A minimum of 5 years' results-oriented experience with a strategic focus in resource development and/or communications.
• Demonstrated commitment to community-based, women-centered movements.
• Experience contributing at a senior management level in a not-for-profit environment, with demonstrated success in developing high-performing teams.
• Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) or IABC/CPRS designation would be an asset.
• Seasoned media spokesperson with crisis communications experience, media trainer, and skillful presentation coach.
• Professional demeanor including exceptional written and verbal communication skills, diplomacy, integrity, and ethics.
• A team player who values an environment of open communication and collaboration.
• Experienced with CRM, digital marketing tools, and web-based platforms such as WordPress, Canva, Mailchimp, and Vimeo.

Position Details

The Director of Resource Development and Communications is a full-time, year-round position, with a salary range of $84,825 to $99,450. The successful candidate will be required, from time to time, to work evenings and weekends. Flexibility and work-from-home options are part of the culture at YWCA Banff.
