Director, Human Resources

Overview

High Tide Inc. is a dynamic cannabis retail and distribution company. We are looking for a Director, Human Resources for our exponentially growing company. Under the direction of the Vice President, Human Resources, the Director, Human Resources will be our champion of the people services team and primarily responsible for the day-to-day functioning of the human resources department.

Responsibilities

1. Plan, organize, execute day-to-day activities of the HR department with a team of HR Generalists and HR/Payroll administrator, retail recruitment lead.
2. Oversee staffing, new store openings and HR Operations, Performance Management, Investigations, Training, Onboarding, Employee relations, including wage increases, promotions, and disciplinary actions in compliance with company policies.
3. Determine staffing requirements and oversee the retail internal promotion process for retail cannabis and accessories distribution business.
4. Approve vacation requests and monitor employee scheduling to maintain appropriate coverage.
5. Develop performance goals, metrics, and targets that are consistent with company goals.
6. Administer progressive disciplinary action in accordance with established procedures and coach team members of the HR team on execution of HR tasks.
7. Plan human resources requirements in conjunction with other departmental managers.
8. Conduct employee performance evaluations and provide employees with performance feedback.
9. Determine areas of improvement for HR employees, providing additional training to the HR team as needed.
10. Implement solid process improvements for scalability and diligence in various HR functions and processes.
11. Conduct workplace investigations and resolve any conflicts that arise among staff in the department, including managing relationships with most unions and union representatives.
12. Ensure employees adhere to all health and safety regulations, including company policies.
13. Develop strategic performance metrics and targets that are consistent with company goals.
14. Ensure employees have clear goals and are aware of expectations.
15. Ensure that all employees comply with company policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
16. Oversee employee complaints and incidents, including conflict resolution, accidents, health and safety concerns, work refusals, and investigations.
17. Develop employee training, ensuring that all applicable compliance requirements are met for retail cannabis business in Canada across all provinces.
18. Provide leadership and coaching to managers and employees on key workplace matters such as performance management, difficult conversations, employee relations, and employee development.
19. Monitor assigned payroll activities and program components for the purpose of ensuring effective department functioning, coordinating activities, and compliance with established financial, legal, and administrative requirements.
20. Participate and oversee the payroll audit on a quarterly and annual basis and ensure HR and payroll processes are SOX compliant.
21. Suggest process improvements as and when required.
22. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

1. Retail industry HR Management experience an asset.
2. Degree or diploma in business administration, human resources management, or a related field required.
3. MBA/CPHR/SHRM - SCP preferred.
4. Minimum 10 - 15 years of progressive HR management work experience.
5. Demonstrated ability to meet strategic objectives for HR and the organization.
6. Demonstrated ability to manage HR teams and functions in a public company, preferably a regulated public company.
7. Able to make sound business decisions and evidence-based recommendations to senior management.
8. Vibrant and charismatic leader, great communicator and possess effective coaching skills.
9. Sound knowledge of employment standards and other applicable legislations across all provinces of Canada and the USA.
10. Strong HR process skills in investigations, employee relations and alignment with business functions.
11. Strong communication skills at all levels of the organization.
12. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
13. Strong presentation skills.
14. Superior leadership skills, staff management, and team-building skills.
15. Computer literacy, including advanced skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required.
16. Strong foundation in employment law and legislation.
17. Demonstrated sound knowledge of the cannabis sector an asset.
