COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATE FINANCE (CREF) DIVISION

Launched in 2019, our commercial real estate finance division has collectively funded +$5B in commercial deals and our team has +100 years of combined experience. Together, we specialize in source financing solutions for various property types, such as land, subdivision financing, multi-family, retail, industrial, office, hospitality, mixed-use properties, and specialty financing.

POSITION Director, CMHC Mortgages

LOCATION Edmonton, Calgary, Edmonton or Toronto

YOUR OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking an experienced and strategic professional within our CMHC Mortgages team within the Commercial Real Estate Finance division. The ideal candidate will bring extensive expertise in CMHC specific investor relations, mortgage underwriting, relationship management, and team leadership.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Mortgage Underwriting

Conduct comprehensive review and feasibility assessments of project-based mortgage loan requests
Prepare formal loan presentations for third-party lenders
Identify, assess, and evaluate moderate to complex risks on a project-by-project basis
Perform real estate security valuation
Research current market conditions and comparable transactions
Develop and execute efficient due diligence procedures

Funding Process Coordination

Collaborate with business development staff to meet security and funding conditions
Coordinate mortgage loan funding with internal and external stakeholders
Collection and verification of conditions precedent to funding
Manage external investor reporting, pipelines, and capital management
Liase with investors and loan funders to lock interest rates

Investor Relations & Capital Markets

Work with external third party investors to manage pipelines, interest rate hedging risk and funding timelines.
Collaborate with third party investors to train, educate and optimize funding and investor approval processes
Manage third party investor funding pipelines and associated CMB/MBS allocation strategies
Pricing of whole loan sales
Pricing and execution of hedging long/short positions to ensure minimal interest rate risk to the firm
Liase with internal finance teams to ensure timely and accurate flow of funds

Strategic and Operational Management

Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities in underwriting processes
Develop and execute strategic initiatives to enhance company profitability
Liaise with CMHC stakeholders across business development, underwriting, securitization, and compliance departments
Participate in special projects focused on operational excellence and technology improvements

Leadership

Champion the company's vision, mission, and values
Recruit, develop, and mentor team members
Establish and communicate performance standards
Foster a culture of continuous improvement
Coach and empower staff to handle their roles confidently and professionally

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum of 10 years of experience in mortgage finance or related field
Bachelor's of Commerce preferred (focus in Finance, Economics, or Real Estate)
Proven experience in commercial mortgage underwriting, investor relations, asset management and mortgage administration
Strong negotiation and presentation skills
Exceptional organizational and time management abilities
Demonstrated leadership in change management
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Proven ability to work effectively in diverse, fast-paced environments
