1. Applicants must be available for a non-negotiable start date of Wednesday May 7, 2025.
2. Applicants must be 18 years or older.
3. Applicants must have housing accommodations or transportation in the Calgary area, as Precision does not provide internship housing.
4. By May 5, 2025, applicants must have completed at least their first year of study in a post-secondary program/Technical Institute.

Summary

Precision's Alpha suite of technologies delivers exceptional value to our customers by reducing risks, time and overall well cost. Alpha drives performance through its core strength of integrating data insights, human ingenuity, automation consistency, and smart algorithms to drill the best wells, every time.

The Data Developer will support Precision's Alpha Technologies product line by developing, supporting, and maintaining our operational technologies and data solutions by leveraging modern data mining techniques over large data sets. You will get to work with high-frequency datasets, ranging from real-time (up to 2-10 Hz) data to transactional data.

Responsibilities

1. Design and develop high-quality and testable batch and real-time ETL scripts to process drill rig data sensor streams and produce drilling performance KPIs.
2. Assist with building database models that can be used to translate complex performance data into usable information that objectively depicts Precision's rig fleet performance.
3. Assist with the construction and implementation of the operational data stores and data marts.
4. Participate in code reviews and discussions on software design/architecture.
5. Perform data analysis required to troubleshoot data-related issues and assist in the resolution.
6. Develop and maintain technical documentation or system workflow as needed.
7. Work closely with all business units and data teams to help develop a strategy for long-term data platform architecture.

Education

Currently enrolled in 2nd year or higher or recently completed Degree or Technical Diploma in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.

Experience

1. Familiarity with Python data development experience is needed.
2. Writing SQL experience would be beneficial.
3. Experience with Testing tools like PyUnit, UnitTesting, etc. is needed.
4. Experience using source code management using Git is a must.
5. Have some exposure in building high-performance algorithm pipelines.
6. Familiarity working with Snowflake cloud data warehouse is an asset.
7. Experience with Azure Kubernetes Services is an asset.
8. Experience with Azure DevOps is an asset.
9. Familiarity working with Spotfire is an asset.
10. Familiarity working with Grafana is an asset.
11. Knowledge of ETL performance-tuning techniques.
12. Familiarity with Confluent Kafka is good to have.
