HobartSupporting the Principal Legal Officer and Senior Legal Officer by undertaking research, providing legal advice and representing the Department of Police Fire and Emergency Management in litigious matters.Period of Appointment12 monthsDutiesProvide legal advice to members of the Department of Police, Fire and Emergency Management on a wide range of routine matters within the policing context.Assist the Principal Legal Officer and the Senior Legal Officer with litigious matters and research in relation to routine matters and more complex matters.Conduct matters and represent the Commissioner of Police before various Courts and Tribunals, in particular appeals under the Firearms Act 1996 and applications under the Telecommunications (Interception and Access) Act 1979 (Cth).Represent the Department of Police Fire and Emergency Management on committees, advisory bodies and working groups.Legal practitioner with a minimum of 2 years relevant post-admission experience.Admitted, or qualified for and entitled to be admitted, as a barrister or a practitioner of the Supreme Court of Tasmania under the Provisions of the Legal Profession Act 2007.Pre-Employment ChecksThe Head of the State Service has determined that a person nominated for appointment to this position is to satisfy a pre-employment check before taking up the appointment, promotion or transfer.
