Location: Negotiable - Cairns or Gulf Savannah region

Remuneration:

Negotiable - based on experience

Base salary range - $90,372 - $93,944 pa, plus super and entitlements

Gulf Savannah Development Inc. (GSD) was established in 1974 as the Gulf Savannah region's economic development agency. GSD is a registered not-for-profit organisation working in partnership with Councils, industry and community to drive and support economic growth across a range of sectors including tourism, agriculture and fisheries, aviation, resources, energy, renewables, infrastructure and all levels of community and business. GSD connects these sectors and the region with all levels of government, securing funding, facilitating and delivering projects, advocating change and influencing policy.

Tourism Recovery and Resilience Program

A Tourism Recovery and Resilience Program has been approved under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) 2018 - Category C for an eligible disaster event: Northern and Central Queensland Monsoon and Flooding, 20 December 2022 - 30 April 2023.

The local government areas (LGA) included in this disaster event are: Burke, Carpentaria, Cloncurry, Doomadgee, Mornington and Mount Isa.

The Tourism Recovery and Resilience Program will be delivered from July 2024 to 30 June 2026.

Objectives of the Program:

• Support development of longer-term recovery and resilience plans to support affected tourism operators.
• Support and enable community-led recovery initiatives that build on the strength and capacity of the community to promote resilience to future severe weather events and external shocks.

Outcomes of the Program:

• Boost visitation to the region through a range of destination marketing initiatives.
• Effective liaison and management of the recovery and resilience processes for the tourism sector, including linking with state and national programs.
• Delivery of community-led initiatives that build on the strength and capacity of tourism operators.
• Flood-affected tourism businesses receive information on how to navigate government support available to them and assistance to apply for grant funding.
• Tourism representatives experiencing distress associated with the flooding event are referred to relevant service providers for assistance.

Tourism Recovery Officer Role

The Tourism Recovery Officer is a key initiative under the Tourism Recovery Package jointly funded by the Australian and State Governments through the DRFA to support immediate and longer-term recovery of disaster-affected individuals, families, and communities.

The officer supports the recovery and sustainability of regional tourism operators in local government areas impacted by the eligible disaster event.

Key Role Responsibilities:

• Work within a team and in conjunction with industry, Councils, relevant Australian and Queensland government agencies, and the wider tourism industry to:
• Support the recovery and sustainability of regional tourism operators.
• Collaborate with the Our Country Advisory Service and First Nations tourism officers to deliver appropriate activities/events.
• Assist the Gulf Savannah region and North-West Queensland to recover from recent disasters.
• Manage, develop, and implement localised and community-led recovery and resilience initiatives for the tourism sector.
• Act as a liaison with Gulf Savannah tourism businesses and across all levels of government and industry.
• Conduct and/or coordinate seminars and workshops and other capacity-building events.
• Engage with locally-led community recovery initiatives to ensure tourism recovery activities leverage community recovery outcomes.
• Develop and apply project management methodologies to effectively manage and deliver concurrent tasks and projects.
• Other duties as directed by the Chief Executive Officer.

Training:

• On-the-job training will be provided.
• The position holder will be encouraged to attend workshops and conferences relevant to the position.

Selection Criteria:

Qualifications/Licences - Mandatory:

• Possess a current open 'C' class licence (Car).

Qualifications/Licences - Desirable:

• A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline or relevant extensive experience in a similar role would be highly desirable.
• Demonstrated experience in project and budget management methodologies.
• High-level interpersonal skills to communicate effectively.
• Strong strategic, conceptual, and analytic skills.
• Ability to contribute to destination marketing collateral and campaigns.
• Proven ability to manage/planning own time and priorities.
• Knowledge of workplace health and safety considerations.
• Preparedness to work flexible hours and travel as necessary.

Other Information Relevant to This Role:

• This position is funded through DRFA by the Australian and Queensland Governments.
• Subject to available funding, one or more suitable people may be appointed.
• Regular travel throughout North-West Queensland will be required.

Remuneration and Entitlements:

• Salary may be negotiated based on experience.
• Base salary range - $90,372 - $93,944 pa, including annual leave loading of 17. 5%.
• Superannuation of 12% of base salary will be paid.
• 25 days paid recreational leave per annum.
• 10 days paid personal or sick/carers leave per annum.
