Animal Technical Officer

Full time fixed term opportunity for up to 3 years.Base salary will be in the range $78,944.40 - $87,750.37 + 17% Superannuation (HEW Level 5).The Animal Technical Officer, reporting to the Translational Model Facilities Manager, provides expert care and husbandry for laboratory rodents, manages complex colonies, and supports various research activities at the TRI Human Immune Model Facility.
This facility enables cutting-edge translational research with humanised mice, the gold standard models for studying human immune systems, drug testing, and accelerating research translation.
Located at the state-of-the-art Translational Research Institute, this role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to significant research projects in a dynamic environment.Key ResponsibilitiesConduct standard breeding husbandry tasks, including animal identification, weaning, and tissue collection.Perform and provide training in colony health monitoring, including necropsies and sample collection/shipping.Supervise and participate in the cleaning and biosecurity maintenance of animal facilities.Maintain accurate records, manage inventory, and develop operational reports.Be available for after-hours work and participate in weekend/public holiday rosters as needed.Perform basic animal procedures for researchers, including identification, sample collection, and surgical care.Conduct PC2 wet lab work involving humanised mouse models, such as organ processing and flow cytometry.Train staff and researchers in various animal procedures and operational duties.Medical Clearance:
Working with laboratory animals is an inherent requirement of the position.

It is a condition of employment for this role that if you are required now or in the future, to work or interact in Queensland Health clinical facility; or in an equivalent clinical health facility; or health care role; or will be required to perform work tasks that put you at risk of exposure to vaccine-preventable disease you are required to be immunised against, and remain immunised against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPDs) in accordance with the University's Vaccinations and Immunisation Guidelines (PPL 2.60.08).
