The Australian Border Force (ABF) is Australia's frontline border law enforcement agency and customs service. The ABF delivers critical border protection and national security outcomes while facilitating the movement of people and goods across the border. The ABF's mission is to protect Australia's border and enable legitimate travel and trade.

Operation LUNAR - Response to increased Civil Maritime Security threats in the Northern Territory (NT).

• Operation LUNAR is a multi-agency operation, led by the ABF to target the increase in illegal foreign fishing vessels being detected in the NT.
• Operation LUNAR will establish an enhanced and enduring ABF posture in the Northern Territory using an intelligence-informed, phased approach that integrates the full suite of ABF capabilities.

Duties and responsibilities

An APS5 Senior Border Force Officer (SBFO) in Operation LUNAR is expected to attain and maintain the competencies, skills, knowledge and attributes of an APS5 SBFO (General Duties).

Remote and Marine officers undertake a range of duties that may include:

• supporting officers to manage performance and build capability
• contributing to the development of remote patrol plans
• participation in remote patrol activities
• conducting community engagement activities
• collection of information in support of border protection and enforcement activities
• safe operation of ABF assets

Additional information

All positions are based in Darwin, NT and require a physical presence.

These are designated positions and will require you to meet all Border Force Officer essential qualifications. If successful for one of these positions, you will be required to:

• be operationally ready
• be a sworn officer
• work outside of business hours, including weekends
• participate in and be available for a restriction on-call roster
• complete Operational Safety Training
• work with high-risk and/or challenging clients
