Registered Nurse - OT

Responsibilities:

• Perform duties in accordance with NMC guiding principles, DHA regulations, and other regulatory authorities.
• Provide care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner sensitive to the diversity of adult or elderly patients and families, preserving their autonomy, dignity, and rights.
• Deliver culturally appropriate, patient-focused nursing care.
• Apply international patient safety goals throughout the patient journey and care process.
• Respect patient rights and apply family rights with empathy and emotional stability.
• Educate and inform patients on the care process within the scope of practice.
• Prepare the operating room for procedures and demonstrate compliance with legal and ethical aspects of peri-operative nursing.
• During surgical procedures, OT Nurses may take on the following roles:

Circulating Nurse:

• Assist in positioning and ensuring patient comfort and safety.
• Support the Surgeon and Anesthetist in the operating theatre.
• Handle specimens accurately.
• Observe and enforce strict asepsis standards.
• Monitor all equipment used during surgery to ensure functionality.
• Manage patient documentation.
• Inventory all items pre- and post-surgery.

Scrub Nurse:

• Select and handle instruments and supplies for the operation, passing them to the surgeon.
• Inventory all items pre- and post-surgery.
• Assist physicians in delivering direct surgical care.
• Help control bleeding and provide wound exposure.
• Assist in suturing patients post-surgery.
• Count all instruments and mops before closing wounds.

Recovery Room:

• Assess, implement, and coordinate complex care and interventions.
• Provide comfort and prevent suffering.
• Support a compassionate and therapeutic environment for post-operative patients.
• Monitor patient conditions post-operatively in the recovery room, demonstrating compliance with legal and ethical aspects of peri-operative nursing.
• Demonstrate competence in effective and safe patient care following anesthesia, including airway techniques and management of complications.
• Liaise with wards regarding patient information and manage administrative tasks such as paperwork and equipment ordering.
• Facilitate diagnostics, collect specimens, and ensure results are acknowledged by the doctor.
• Perform clinical nursing procedures and administer medications as per hospital policy.
• Document patient assessment findings and maintain accurate records as per hospital policy.
• Initiate rapid response team measures according to hospital protocol.
• Report patient conditions and hand over information during each shift.
• Collaborate with all disciplines to deliver optimal patient care.
• Address and escalate concerns to immediate supervisors.
• Utilize resources efficiently and maintain inventory of drugs and supplies.
• Deliver safe patient care consistently, following infection control practices.
• Manage time effectively, multitask, and prioritize responsibilities.
• Apply necessary safety checks and report significant information timely and appropriately.
• Demonstrate updated knowledge and participate in professional development activities.
• Orient new staff and evaluate peer group as per hospital policy.
• Drive change, innovation, and strategic thinking within the scope of practice.
• Demonstrate ethical and professional behavior with all stakeholders.
• Participate in quality improvement activities as expected by the organization.
• Assess and mitigate risks, reporting as per hospital policy.
• Contribute to patient and environmental safety by identifying risks.
• Support processes related to patient care and satisfaction.
• Accept additional responsibilities assigned by immediate supervisors.

Qualifications:

• Master's in Nursing / Bachelor of Science in Nursing / Diploma in Nursing.
• Current license from home country and DHA license to practice in Dubai.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience.
• BLS provider and ACLS provider certification required; PALS preferable.
• Spoken Arabic language skills preferable.

Skills:

• Proven experience as an operating room nurse (circulating, scrub, recovery room).
• Excellent knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniques.
• Solid understanding of patient safety and precautions.
• In-depth knowledge of surgical operation procedures.
• Outstanding organizational ability and teamwork skills.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Proficiency in multitasking and handling stressful situations.
• Computer literacy and cognitive skills relevant to the position.
