• Card 21 / 23: Name one scientist discussed in lecture this semester and accurately describe their experiment and/or contributions to the topics relating to chapters 1 and/or 2.

    Answer:
Ernest Rutherford did an experiment with thin foils and gold where he used these materials as objects as target for a- particles. The majority of the a- particles hit the foil without any deflection or will a small angle of deflection. However, every once in a while an a particle would go back in the direction it had come from. This was an unexpected finding when the majority of the a particles went through the foil without much if any deflection.
