Card 25 / 29: 7 yr old mare presented for weight loss over last 3-4 months. Yesterday she was found lying in pasture and reluctant to get up. Thinking this is a mild colic, the owner administered 4 grams of phenylbutazone orally. The next morning, the mare was standing in one corner of the stall, pressing her head up against the wall. All the bedding was piled up in the center of the stall, indicating that the mare had been circling during the night.
